As a kid, I wanted to have a complete drum set in my room, pad the walls up to soundproof it. But then there is the issue of space. I have to hang my bed on the rafters just to accommodate the entire set.
The drum machine is a great innovation. Imagine all the components that make a complete drum set cramped into one small electronic box, some models smaller than an electronic keyboard. Some models look like a small area of a tiled floor with six ’tiles’ that correspond to each drum and you actually get to play it like a regular drum set: with a pair of drumsticks. The movement is of course limited, you cannot go rabid with the thumping and the hitting unlike a full drum set but it works for me.
